Little Nightmares III – Secrets of the Spiral DLC
Two young friends, lost in a frightening world not made for children.
If they cannot find a way out of this Nowhere place, they’ll be condemned to a fate worse than death.
Role: Advanced Level Designer
Little Nightmares III is an atmospheric puzzle platform game in which you follow the journey of best friends Low and Alone. Together they explore The Spiral, a twisted and hostile part of The Nowhere. If Low and Alone want to survive this desolate land they will have to patch each other’s backs and work together to solve puzzles and avoid the dark and twisted Residents that inhabit it.
As an Advanced Level Designer on this project my responsibilities included:
– Designing levels that fit within the identity of the established Little Nightmares franchise.
– Designing and iterating levels that featured a combination of tense enemy encounters and puzzle elements.
– Designing level “Action Blocks” that incorporate platforming, bespoke puzzles, and narrative beats.
– Pacing and scripting levels to be played either in Singleplayer or online Co-Op.
– Leading multi-discipline strike teams throughout production to take levels from concepts to final
– Working with Engineering to iterate on the design of the level antagonist.
– Working with Direction to establish a level design workflow from paper design to final.
– Fixing bugs and polishing content for final submission.
Little Nightmares III – Design Test
For this Level Design exercise on Little Nightmares III I was tasked with creating three gameplay sections, a puzzle, a stealth encounter, and a chase, set in the Game’s Candy Factory level.
To complete this task I designed a single connected level broken down into Action Blocks that utilised the game’s coregfeature set, as well as bespoke moments to create a narrative throughline for players to follow.
